The Oscars

Hello friends!

Since we are such an entertaining blog, we couldn't leave the Oscar Awards out of it, right?

So, lets see who won the desired little statue...

Best Picture

The Hurt Locker
Kathryn Bigelow, Mark Boal, Nicolas Chartier and Greg Shapiro

Photobucket

Scuttlebutt: Personally, I think that Avatar was better... Don't shoot people. I'm expressing my opinion. It was one of the most amazing, breathtaking movies I've seen the last years! I was 100% sure it would win the Oscar but the Academy had a different opinion it seems...

Prattle: I didn't see this or Avatar..yet.. And I don't know what I think about a movie that is mostly CGI placing for best picture. To me "Best Picture" represents something that has moved you or made you think, so I'm ok with "The Hurt Locker" winning.

Scuttlebutt: There might be a lot of CGI Mrs. Prattle but that doesn't mean the actors aren't acting or there is no scenario. If you see Avatar, it will "move" you and fascinate you. Take my word on it.

Scuttlebutt: Of course I think it will be good! I don't think James Cameron would put out something that is not incredible! I'm just not convinced that it is "Best Picture" worthy..I very well could change my mind once I see it, who knows!

Prattle: Watch it and lemme know. *giggles at pic that follows*

Ben Stiller presenting as a Na'vi! *grins*

Scuttlebutt: I haven't seen that one too! Is on my "must see" list already!

Actress in a Leading Role

Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side

Scuttlebutt: You go girl!! Love love love Sandra Bullock! First Oscar nomination!! First Oscar award! I'm expecting more to come!

Scuttlebutt: I have to see that movie... Sheesh.. I loved all the other nominees in this category too... Maggie Gillenhall, Penelope Cruz, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick.

Prattle: From what I've seen of her performance, this was one that was also very deserved.. I can't wait to see it, but it will break my heart to watch I'm sure.

Prattle: Woot! What was it I heard recently... The more boobs that are pressed against the glass ceiling the quicker it'll break! No longer a boy's only club and that's awesome.

6 Ways to Take a Mental Vacation

Sometimes you need to get away, but you don't have the time or money. Don't despair: A mental vacation can help reduce your stress.
By Diana Rodriguez
Medically reviewed by Lindsey Marcellin, MD, MPH

stressed monkey

Small stressors can quickly add up to major stress and one big stressful event can send you reeling, with no idea of how to start addressing it. If you could just get away for a little stress relief, you know you would be okay. But too few of us have the time — or the money — to run off on an impromptu vacation.

Well, you don't have to spend a dime or go anywhere other than a quiet spot nearby to take a mental vacation.

Stress Relief: Take Off on a Mental Vacation

If you don’t find a way to reduce stress, your health will pay the price, both mentally and physically. It’s not necessary to get a lengthy massage or head to a beach to relax — you can unwind every day in simple ways and still get a major benefit.

"People who are under a lot of stress have physical problems related to constantly being under stress," says Sally R. Connolly, a social worker and therapist at the Couples Clinic of Louisville in Louisville, Ky. "And if you don’t find ways [to relieve it], even in small periods of time, you can have long-term consequences." It's crucial to add stress relief to your everyday routine, she says.

Connolly suggests learning techniques to reduce stress and trying to sneak in one or two each day. "Even if it's five minutes in the morning and five minutes at night, just find time to do that," she says.

Stress Relief: Six Quick Mental Trips

Visualizing a stress-free place and other relaxation techniques are quick and easy ways to help your whole body calm down and give you just the boost you need to get on with your day. Connolly suggests these six ways for you to slip away on a mental vacation to reduce stress:

  1. Read a book in bed. Connolly says this is a great escape and can leave you feeling refreshed, relaxed, and ready to face whatever is outside your bedroom door. Your bed is warm, cozy, comfortable, and a peaceful place for you. It feels luxurious, and getting lost in a good book is a perfect way to forget, then refocus, your own thoughts.
  2. Visualize relaxation. Steal a few quiet moments to close your eyes and think of an image that relaxes you — such as the warm sun on your skin and the sound of the ocean, a big country field sprinkled with flowers, or a trickling stream. Connolly suggests thinking back to a time when you felt peaceful and relaxed, and focus on releasing the tension from your toes to your head.
  3. Look at pictures from a happy time. Connolly recommends pulling out snapshots from a photo album of a family vacation or a fun dinner with friends. Reflect on your memories of that occasion, and what made it so enjoyable. Spend a few quiet moments reminiscing, and you'll find yourself more relaxed.
  4. Look out a window. Distract yourself by focusing on something other than what's stressing you.Grab a steaming cup of coffee or tea, close the door, and take a mental break. Do a little people watching, appreciate any birds within view, or enjoy some fluffy clouds rolling by. Allow yourself to daydream for a few minutes.
  5. Listen to a relaxation CD. Invest in a couple of these CDs for a short daily escape, says Connolly. You may like to hear chirping birds, rolling waves, or gentle rain — whatever your choice, closing your eyes and listening to these soothing sounds while doing some deep breathing can help you relax and de-stress.
  6. Take a walk. Exercise is a great way to relieve stress because it's a great escape for your mind. Head out for a quiet early morning walk or lace up your sneakers on your lunch break. Walking along a trail, waterfront, or other peaceful place when possible may offer even more relaxation.

Treat yourself to a 5-, 10-, or 20-minute mental vacation each day and train your body to relax and reduce stress — you'll be amazed at how much better you feel after taking just a few luxurious moments all to yourself.

Foodie Friday

Hello dears!

Today we got you a recipe all the way from Greece!!!

Stuffed cabbage leafs or else... Lahanodolmades!

INGREDIENTS

1 big cabbage, not too tight
500 gr (about 18 ounce) minced meat (half pork / half veal)
250 gr (about 9 ounce) rice
1 big onion
Parsley
Dill
Olive oil
Salt
Pepper
2 eggs
Juice of 1 lemon

DIRECTIONS

Rinse the cabbage and remove its root. In a large saucepan boil water and heat the cabbage in order to tenderize the leaves. Hold it under the boiling water with a wooden spoon. Carefully separate each leaf and drain. Remove, if possible, the hard stem from each leaf. Be careful not to damage them. Put aside.

Chop the onions and the dill finely and saute in the olive oil. Add the minced meat and stir until it gets brown. Shortly before you are done, add the rice, parsley, salt and pepper. Stir a few more times and put the mix aside to cool.

Place some of the mixture on each leaf and then fold to make a little parcel. Careful, not too tight. About 2-3 tablespoons filling should be enough for every leaf.

Photobucket

At the bottom of a large saucepan place a few of the outer cabbage leaves (you can also use some "damaged" ones) and on top of them place the stuffed ones. Pour water in so that all the stuffed cabbage leaves are covered and then cover the top with a plate so that our little "parcels" don't loose their shape.

Let the water boil and then reduce heat to the lowest and let it cook for about 45 minutes. Let it cool for 10-20 mins.

Beat 2 eggs together with the lemon juice. Poor out some of the liquid from the saucepan and slowly stir it in the mix. After you mixed it thoroughly, poor it in the saucepan again. Grab the handles and shake it a bit so that it goes everywhere.

Photobucket

Tip: Wash the rice thoroughly and then before you add it to your mixture, mix it with one teaspoon olive oil. That way, the rice wont stick together. :)

That was it :)

Enjoy!

Humpday hottie!

Hello friends!

Today's Humpday Hottie is a very very hotttttttt guy!

I present to you....

Johnny Depp

Well, we don't really need to introduce you to him. Right?

Soooo....

...John Christopher Depp II was born June 9th, 1963 (Star sign: Gemini) in Owensboro, Kentucky, USA. He was raised in Florida. Dropped out of school at age 15 in the hopes of becoming a rock musician. He fronted a series of garage bands including The Kids, which once opened for Iggy Pop. Depp got into acting after a visit to Los Angeles, California, with his former wife, Lori Anne Allison (Lori A. Depp), who introduced him to actor Nicolas Cage.

Photobucket

He made his film debut in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). In 1987 he shot to stardom when he replaced Jeff Yagher in the role of undercover cop Tommy Hanson in the popular TV series "21 Jump Street" (1987).
In 1990, after numerous roles in teen-oriented films, his first of a handful of great collaborations with director Tim Burton came about when Depp played the title role in Edward Scissorhands (1990).

Enjoy the video our friend and affiliate @Rayneattwilight made for us!

Following the film's success, Depp carved a niche for himself as a serious, somewhat dark, idiosyncratic performer, consistently selecting roles that surprised critics and audiences alike. He continued to gain critical acclaim and increasing popularity by appearing in many features before re-joining with Burton in the lead role of Ed Wood (1994). In 1997 he played an undercover FBI agent in the fact-based film Donnie Brasco (1997), opposite Al Pacino; in 1998 he appeared in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), directed by Terry Gilliam; and then, in 1999, he appeared in the sci-fi/horror film The Astronaut's Wife (1999). The same year he teamed up again with Burton in Sleepy Hollow (1999), brilliantly portraying Ichabod Crane.

Photobucket

Depp has played many characters in his career, including another fact-based one, Insp. Fred Abberline in From Hell (2001). He stole the show from screen greats such as Antonio Banderas in the finale to Robert Rodriguez's "mariachi" trilogy, Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003). In that same year he starred in the marvelous family blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), playing a character that only the likes of Depp could pull off: the charming, conniving and roguish Capt. Jack Sparrow. Now Depp is collaborating again with Burton in a screen adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005).

Off-screen, Depp has dated several female celebrities, and has been engaged to Sherilyn Fenn, Jennifer Grey, Winona Ryder and Kate Moss. He was married to Lori Anne Allison in 1983 but they divorced her in 1985. Depp is living with French singer-actress Vanessa Paradis, with whom he has two children: Lily-Rose Melody, born in 1999 and Jack, born in 2002.

Coffee, Tea or Me?

Beans

Topless Coffee

Lawful or no, we wish our local coffee shop was more like this.

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Pierce County prosecutors filed a charge of unlawful public exposure against a 19-year-old barista accused of wearing only a thong bottom and X-shaped pasties on her nipples. Prosecutors filed the misdemeanor charge Tuesday against the woman who worked at the Bikini Bottoms espresso stand in Puyallup. A passer-by had complained last October about seeing the woman topless.

When a sheriff's deputy went to investigate the woman went to the back of the stand, took off the pasties and put on a bikini top.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reported the deputy confiscated the pasties as evidence.
